Don’t worry, the lazer pistol has a safety, and it was definitely on during that interaction on the bridge.
Also, tangentially related to the comic, a friend of mine who has been reading the comic asked how long my comic making process takes. I threw out some random numbers that I thought sounded right at the time, but I thought I would actually keep track for the next one . . . which was this one. The Line work step took longer than it should have because what I had drawn in the thumbnail step (not listed because I did it before I had decided to time myself) didn’t translate well to the actual page so I had to draw and redraw a couple of panels.
Framing: (Drawing the comic panels) 40 Minutes
Line Work: (The art that actually goes in each panel) 15 Hours and 10 Minutes
Inking: (Going over the line work with black inks so I can scan it into the computer for coloring) 3 Hours and 10 Minutes
Scanning/Clean-up: (Getting the images scanned and cleaning up mistakes made during the inking step) 50 Minutes
Text and Speech Bubbles: (Yep) 1 Hour
Flatting: (Segmenting out each panel with random color [it sounds dumb but it’s helpful, trust me]) 4 Hours and 45 Minutes
Coloring: (Replacing the flat colors with the correct colors) 2 Hours and 40 Minutes
Total Work : 28 Hours and 15 Minutes
Oof . . . I’m planning on changing the process slightly to make flatting and coloring easier, that should cut some time.
Hopefully with more practice I will be able to cut the time down slightly. It would also help if I stopped making each page so massively large, but alas, it simply is that way.
